Right, we know who we've left unprotected now, and it's certainly not because anybody will have wanted to. My list yesterday included Chris Wingert, who I thought might be protected — but I opted for Ned Grabavoy, personally. We see now, however, that the front office has picked Wingert and left Ned off, and it's very hard to blame them for this.
Talk yesterday focused on some of the weird decisions managers made in their protected lists, but there was no strangeness from Jason and Garth, really. We knew some players we most certainly want to keep would be left off, and that's just the way the cookie crumbles, I suppose.
The RSL community has put forward their support for Ned Grabavoy remaining, and I don't think anybody would like him to leave, really. The fact remains: He is one of the best players available in the draft. He's a hard-working, no-nonsense midfielder whose passing is quality. He can play in a more defensive-minded anchor role, or he can play in our box-to-box roles, and neither is much of a problem.
I'd love for us to keep Ned, but the fact remains, I don't really want to lose anybody in this manner. If we want to be rid of a player, I'd rather they were traded away, released, or something — but taken away like this? I hate the idea. It's perhaps a necessity, but that doesn't mean we have to like it — right?
Here's the list again, if you haven't seen it:
Agorsor, Chris; Alexandre, Jean; Alvarez, Arturo; Alvarez, Yordany; Araujo, Paulo Jr.; Arnoux, Cody; Gonzalez, Nelson; Grabavoy, Ned; McKenzie, Rauwshan; Melia, Timothy (GK); Reynish, Kyle (GK); Russell, Robbie; Warner, Collen; Williams, Andy; Wagner, Blake
And so you're aware, we've left Andy Williams unprotected for several years running, and I don't think there's much chance he'll be snatched away from us. The same likely applies to Robbie Russell.
This is just a short one today, but let's get your opinion on the matter: Who could we stand to lose? Who can't we stand to lose that we've left unprotected?
