Vancouver karma, All-Star picks, and not much else

·

So are we all calmed down after the postponed Vancouver match? No, neither am I. But there may be some vague sense of justice: Rain is threatening the Manchester City friendly they sought so hard to protect, and that would be some sense of karmic (I’ve misused the term like most others do, and I’m not going to apologize) justice, wouldn’t it? Oh, how the universe smiles sometimes.

In other news, our very own Kyle Beckerman and Jamison Olave have been named to the squad for the MLS All-Star game by coach Hans Backe. But several others from the squad who would have been better named than some who were — say, Nat Borchers and Nick Rimando, for starters — were simply ignored. In fact, Houston’s Tally Hall and Philly’s Faryd Mondragon were named ahead of Nick, and that’s just, well, weird.

Still, I understand wanting to have a varied roster from across the league is understandable for this glory friendly. It’s all a bit tedious, if you ask me. Beckerman and Olave will have a nice chance to tackle Manchester United into the ground, though, and I won’t complain about that. Let’s see it, boys!

Not much else in the way of news today, but you should know that 10 of my 11 picks for Saturday would have started. Here’s where I do a bit of a victory dance about that very meaningless accomplishment that was made even more futile by the lack of a match. Ah, well...

‘Till tomorrow, friends. Up the RSL!
