Training notes: Injuries, depth, Enzo and more!

Training notes: Injuries, depth, Enzo and more!

A short one from me today, as Trevor had an excellent and enjoyable first post on Under the Crossbar. If you've not given that a read, I'd recommend you do so before you partake in my scattered, barely legible ramblings.

Are you done? OK, good. Let's get on with it.

  • Injury problems? What injury problems?! Everybody's looking reasonably fit and raring to go. That's quite nice.
  • Some of the players remained after most players hit the locker room (or maybe somewhere else, I don't really know). Remaining were some of the players who aren't likely to see any minutes — no real surprises there, as most were players who'd played in the reserves match this week. Included was Will Johnson, who is looking better and better, but is perhaps still a week or two away from true contention. However, Nat Borchers, Alvaro Saborio, Jonny Steele, and Javier Morales weren't part of this additional group, leading me to speculate that they'll be involved.
  • Enzo Martinez looked to be focusing more heavily on tracking back in defense during short-sided match-ups, which was good to see. That, alongside a faster release of the ball, will lead to him seeing minutes this season. Here's hoping.
  • Trialists! We had some. I don't know much about them, but we do have second-round SuperDraft pick Chris Estridge on trial. He was cut by Vancouver, but he's a full back who seems good on the ball. I don't imagine we'll need five full backs this season, but there's that.
  • Competition. We've got some. For places, that is. Anyway, yes, this is more born out of discussion at training and less things seen in training (though things seen didn't harm the concept): We're deeper than we've been — at least in the midfield. Who do we start? How do you drop a youngster who has been setting the world alight with his play? Jason Kreis is in a tough spot, but there's hardly a better man in this nation for it.
  • The pitch looks nice! This isn't a surprise, but it's good, especially after some ugly snow this week. Of course, it did melt in a few short hours, so this may be more an excuse to complain than anything.

Right, that's really all I have for now. Inevitably, I'll head off to the Friday Friendly and remember about 100,000 things I didn't mention. Alas.

'Til tomorrow, when I'll be back with the match preview, a predicted lineup, and all that nonsense.
